2025 taxes guide

Your 2025 Tax Guide : Important Information🚩

Dear Investors,

Here is some important information for your 2025 tax returns, including several links to guides to help you retrieve your documents.

Important Dates

March 2nd, 2026 – RRSP: Deadline to contribute to your RRSP for the 2025 tax year.

💰 How much can you contribute to your RRSP?  Your RRSP contribution room is listed on your federal notice of assessment. See our guides:

3️⃣ Did you know that RRSP contribution receipts are issued three times?

  • End of January 2026: For contributions made between March 4th and December 31st, 2025.
  • Beginning of February 2026: For contributions made between January 1st and January 31st, 2026.
  • Beginning of March 2026: For contributions made between February 1st and March 2nd, 2026.

March 31st, 2026 – Tax slips 🗓️: Tax slips are made available or mailed by this date, depending on your selected delivery method.

  • You can wait until this date before retrieving the slips, which will be available on the PEAK portal: “MyPEAKOnline”.
  • Alternatively, click here for a table with the specific dates on which each slip will be available.

April 30th, 2026 – Tax return⏰: Deadline to file your tax return and pay any balance owing.

Self-employed? 👷‍♂️👩‍⚕️ If you are self-employed, you have until June 15th, 2026, to file your return. However, any balance owing must be paid by April 30th, 2026.

Other Important Information

A) 📈 Capital gains/losses report: If sales were made in your cash account in 2025, you must generate this report directly on the PEAK portal (this report is no longer sent by email).

  • 💻 How do I generate the gains report on the PEAK portal? Consult our guide.
  • 📆 Wait until after March 31st? Up to this date, the amounts on certain slips are often amended. You can either wait until after this date, or make sure after March 31st that your tax slips have not been amended. If they have, you will need to generate an updated report.
  • 👻 Phantom distributions? Have you noticed that the book value (or ACB for Adjusted Cost Base) has changed on your latest account statement, and you cannot explain why? This can often be explained by phantom distributions.

B) 💰 Fee deduction for cash (non-registered) accounts:
If you have a cash account, remember that you can deduct the management fees using the receipt that will be issued on the PEAK portal.

C) 🏆 Did you know that you can print all your tax slips available on the PEAK portal with a single click?
When all your tax slips are available (probably at the end of March), you will be able to print them by account in a single click by choosing Merge selected. Please note that the capital gains/losses report must be generated and printed separately.

D) 📜 About certain tax slips on the PEAK portal:

  • T3 Letter – little-known but handy: This document lists the T3 and RL-16 slips you will receive by March 31st. Make sure you have all these tax slips before you generate your capital gains/losses report (if required) and file your tax return.
  • T5008 – No, it is not empty: The financial data appear on the last page only: it is normal for the boxes on the first page to be empty.

E) 📫 Watch the mail for these slips: For mutual funds held or formerly held in a cash (or non-registered) account, please note that the tax slips were mailed to you directly by the fund companies (and are not available on the PEAK portal). This is the case for funds from Manulife, Edgepoint, Dimensional (DFA), Fidelity, BMO, RBC and others.

🏡 First home in 2025? If you or one of your children bought your first home in 2025, do not forget to apply for the tax credit and receive up to $2,611 in refunds.

As usual, we are available to help you or answer any questions you may have.
